USS Enterprise CV-6
The Most Decorated Ship of the Second World War

Enterprise CV-6 Casualty Lists

These pages list the 374 men killed in action or line-of-duty, and 12 men taken prisoner of war, while serving in Enterprise or her attached air groups between December 7, 1941 and August 15, 1945. In ship's company, 139 men lost their lives during the war, but nearly two-thirds of the ship's casualties were absorbed by her air groups. By far the deadliest year was 1942, during which 224 men and officers lost their lives. In 1944, 70 men were killed, while the first 4 1/2 months of 1945 saw 60 men lost, as Japanese resistance grew increasingly desperate.
